Successful crossing Saturday 11th June 2022

Hi,

I wanted to report that myself and Richard Mennear successfully completed the Lyke Wake Walk from West to East on Saturday 11th June.

We set off at 04:25 on a warm and windy morning. This was our 2nd attempt having failed to do so last July due to an injured party member, fog and darkness.

That time 6 of us started it, this time we began with only 3. Unfortunately one stayed behind with our support vehicle at the Lion Inn after withdrawing and myself and Richard carried on into the bleakness of peat bogs and heather. Finding ourselves knee deep at one point we managed to carry on and make it to the next support stop along the route at Fen Bog.

Boyed up by our support team we successfully made it to the marker stone at the trig point/radio mast. Almost collapsing onto it at 21:40.

A challenge most definitely, and one that at times is more about mind over matter, but looking back on the day a challenge we enjoyed and take great satisfaction from. We managed to make it to the Ravenscar Hotel for a well earned pint before collapsing in the car for the journey home.

Thank you for all of the useful information on the website.

Kind Regards

Michael Davey
